Transportation is critical to our lives and our global economy.  However, over 90% of energy for transportation comes from petroleum.  Petroleum based fuels come with countless issues:  global limited supply, rapid global reserves depletion, rising fuel prices affecting not only the price of driving but the cost of food and every other product, limited domestic supply with national security implications, and global climate change with transportation the largest contributor of greenhouse gases.  Electric vehicles offer an alternative but are hampered by problems like range limitation and long charging time.  Better Place envisions a world with electric vehicles powered by renewable energy and without the range and charging limitations.  Tim Claes of Better Place will share this vision and will highlight some of the recent progress that Better Place has made globally.  Come learn about this innovative business model and where it is being implemented today.   Tim will also share how he launched his career in the clean tech sector and provide his personal perspective on making a career transition to clean tech.

Tim Claes manages the Better Place global partnership with General Electric as part of the Better Place Global Strategic Alliances Group.  Tim holds an undergraduate and Masters Degree in Commercial Engineering with a focus on Marketing from the Catholic University of Leuven and holds an MBA from Cornell where he was a Fulbright Scholar. Tim previously held roles in product management and product marketing at Unilever and Yahoo! in the US and Europe.  Tim has been co-leader of the Clean Transportation Working Group within the Silicon Valley Clean Tech Forum.
